A rare pair of large torchères
Made of gilded lime wood and decorated with fine woodcarvings.
The corners of the base are adorned with winged putto heads, whilst the shaft is richly decorated with acanthus leaves and draperies .
The torchères are crowned with strings of pearls and metal bobeches with scalloped edges.
Torchères were intended to hold candlelight and were placed in the corners or between the windows and furniture of a room
