This rare miniature lidded basket is attributed to Hans Jamnitzer, 1539 - 1603, Nürnberg.
The basket is extremely finely woven by hand from solid silver wire with on the lid a frog and two lobsters, with silver gilded handles, flowers and buds.
Around 1600 these baskets were made of reed and were used by fishermen.
A similar miniature basket can be found in the collection of the art room of Georg Laue in Munich, participant in a.o. the Tefaf in Maastricht.
