Silver bread basket

The cast handles are made up of medallions, laurel wreaths and scroll shapes with scale motifs.
There is a pearl border along the top.
The side of the basket is open with bars and vase motifs.
Style: Louis XVI.
 
Maker's mark:
sun with face for Rudolph Sondagh, active 1746-1812.
The maker's mark the sun was used both with and without a face. 
 
Year letter Y for 1781.
City hallmark: Rotterdam.
With the Dutch lion.
 
Rudolph Sondagh was one of the most famous silversmith in Rotterdam in the second half of the 18th century.
His workshop mainly made large silverware, both civil and ecclesiastical.
Like his contemporaries Simons and Schiotling, he applied successive styles in his work.
Sondagh has held various directorships within and outside the guild.
