Jardinière
George (Joris) Van Der Straeten was born in 1857 in Ghent.
As a young man he studied law during the day and sculpture at night.
The loving for art won.
Around 1878 he was the most famous sculptor in Brussels.
On the advice of his friend Jan van Beers he moved to Paris.
His small sculptures were immediately loved, his busts of important figures of that time, his peasant girls and the seductive Parisian ladies.
His way of expressing faces was unprecedented.
Van der Straeten died in 1928 in his birthplace Ghent.
