Saint George and the dragon
A beautifully carved woden statue for on the rudder at the stern of a wooden ship depicting St. George defeating the dragon.
This statue was slid onto the rudder for decoration and secured with the wing bolt, when the ship leaves the harbour.
With old polychromy.
Dutch, 18th century.
Such a sculpture is very rare.
